The Phobya Variable SLI/Crossfire VID Connects two that are operated in a system in SLI mode. The special feature of this fitting is that it varied by about 12mm adjustable in length.

Therefore, these nipples are used with graphics cards from different manufacturers. The nipple can be used either for the graphics cards to run in series, or if you set two nipple between two graphics cards, so both can be cooler when run in parallel. This is of course also possible with 3 graphics card coolers. SLI is the connection nipple is available in 3 lengths:

Article 64 095 for a slot
Article 64 096 for 2 slot
Article 64 097 for 3 slot mainboard.

A direct connector between two graphics cards.
Thread: G1 / 4 "
Material: brass, black nickel
Distance between the coolers: 18.9 to 30.3 mm
Suitable for motherboards with a slot gap between the two graphics cards.
Suitable for VGA crossfire of eg Ek Water Blocks Koolance, DangerDen, XSPC, Alphacool OTC-Flat

The nipple is only compatible with graphics cards, the top and bottom of each of two G1 / 4 inches thread. With the coolers have only connections on one side (eg Aquacomputer) can not be mounted to the nipple.

The Phobya Variable SLI/Crossfire Connector is meant to be used with video cards. I think where it would shine is when using full cover blocks from different manufacturers, where a rigid connector may not measure up. This, however, is a niche within a niche, and this sort of specialization makes it difficult to feel like it is ever the right tool for the job.

I picked up two of these for a tri-SLI configuration with XSPC Razer full cover blocks, thinking them a great value over the rigid XSPC SLI connectors. The material feels quality, and they look sharp, but the fit is not exactly confidence inspiring.

The connector counts on two O-rings in either connector to create a seal against the nipple extending between them. This is sound, in principle, but the nipple is not flanged, so it can slip out if extended too far. Further, the fit on one connector felt tighter than other, suggesting some potential quality control issues with the O-ring thicknesses.

All in all, if you've planned your build well, I would say these are a moot point. I ended up ordering the rigid connectors anyway, and these connectors are sitting in the drawer for... in case, I guess. (Posted on 1/28/15)
