The backplate covers the backside of the graphics card's PCB and serves as an aesthetic add-on. It provides additional passive cooling for the GPU core, rear-mounted VRAM and backside of the printed circuit board VRM section. Due to the small size of both the card and the water block, the backplate boasts a ribbed design for additional passive cooling power and touches the active part of the water block for true hybrid cooling.
